To implement the characteristics of the "Double First-Class" construction of interdisciplinary centers and fully leverage the advantages of interdisciplinary fields, Center of Hydrogen Science（CHS）of Shanghai Jiao Tong University held a ceremony for appointing part-time professors and an academic exchange conference on hydrogen science on July 21, 2019 in the Xu Zuyao Building 500 conference room on the Minhang campus. Ding Wenjiang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of the CHS, Zhu Xinyuan, executive vice president of the Office of Research Management of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Sun Lizhen and Zeng Xiaoqin, vice presidents of the Office of Research Management, Shan Aidang, secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Deng Tao, vice dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, part-time professors Shen Wenbiao, Sun Xuejun, and He Qianjun from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, as well as more than 40 scholars and experts from the fields of hydrogen energy, hydrogen medicine, and hydrogen agriculture attended the conference.

Academician Ding Wenjiang pointed out in his speech that "hydrogen" is increasingly valued by the whole society. CHS adheres to the original intention of its establishment, does not chase hot spots, focuses on the cutting -edge basic scientific issues in the field of hydrogen science, pays attention to the acquisition of original results; Major needs are guided, seeking breakthroughs in bottleneck technology, and a bridge of scientific research and industrial technology. At present, we are in the "midst of great changes that have not been seen in a century". The development of the Center of Hydrogen Science is both an opportunity and a challenge. We must always adhere to the scientific development concept of "frontier, cross-disciplinary, open, and focused", and explore innovative paths for the development of interdisciplinary centers.

Secretary Shan Aidang pointed out that hydrogen is closely related to important issues such as energy, medicine, and agriculture facing human social development. In response to the urgent need for advanced science and technology in fields such as hydrogen energy, hydrogen medicine, and hydrogen agriculture, Shanghai Jiao Tong University established the CHS in early 2019. The joining of part-time professors from SJTU is bound to bring new strength to the development of the center. During the meeting, experts and scholars reported on important research progress in fields such as hydrogen production, storage and transportation, fuel cells, medicine, and agriculture. They analyzed the research challenges they faced, explored new growth points for interdisciplinary research, and expressed that the exchange meeting had broadened their horizons, expanded their thinking, and consolidated their goals, clarify their direction and received great success.
